Sleep Apnea

Dr. Saferin uses a compact oral device to help our patients with sleep apnea. Our affordable and comfortable solutions will help you avoid the potentially life-threatening complications of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA).

WHAT IS SLEEP APNEA AND WHY SHOULD I SEEK TREATMENT?

Sleep apnea happens when a patient experiences pauses in breathing, called apneas, during sleep. These pauses in breathing cause the sufferer to wake up very briefly to restart breathing– up to hundreds of times per night! Sleep apnea leads to poor sleep quality and related health complications such as:

  • Heart disease.
  • Weight gain and obesity.
  • Irritability and depression.
  • Drowsiness and proneness to car accidents.
  • Memory loss.

Sleep apnea is, thankfully, treatable. With simple solutions at Avenue Dental Arts, you can quickly regain your wellness and better your sleep quality.

TAP ORAL APPLIANCE FOR SLEEP APNEA AND SNORING

Our patients deserve the latest and greatest treatment methods. Dr. Saferin offers only high-end solutions to sleep apnea and other health issues.

The Thornton Adjustable Positioner® (TAP) is an oral appliance that is shaped like an athletic mouth guard. It is worn while sleeping to virtually eliminate snoring, and reduce sleep apnea and its associated health risks. With TAP, you can avoid surgery, medications, and the bulky CPAP while treating your sleep apnea and snoring.

The TAP holds the mandible (lower jaw) forward during sleep to prevent snoring and sleep apnea. It keeps the airway open and allows air to pass through the throat easily. Many patients have stated that the dramatic improvement has saved their marriage!

The TAP includes an Upper Tray and a Lower Tray. Your trays position the jaws correctly for free breathing, and can be adjusted for your comfort.

The TAP is unique because it permits us to adjust the device based on your individual needs and preferences. You can now be an active part of your treatment plan, changing the position of the Lower Tray if you feel discomfort or if snoring returns.

Our TAP treatment for sleep apnea is convenient and comfortable for our sleep apnea patients. To schedule a consultation where we can discuss your options, give us a call, today(860) 236-3271.
